After you arrive at your destination, you can either use the web site to register or register in person at the nearest Embassy or Consulate. In accordance with the Privacy Act, information on your welfare or whereabouts may not be released to inquirers without your expressed written authorization. If you register in person, you should bring your U.S. passport with you.

Even though modern train berths are masterfully designed to use every inch of space, you won't be spreading your arms and twirling around much. But after a few hours, the gentle swaying of the train lulled me into relaxation. I finally settled into the freedom that comes with captivity--the freedom to relax, catch up on my reading, writing and needlework, and experience myself as a human being instead of a human doing.
